(Un)Learning contemporary art
TRIAL MODE 01

An open platform dealing with the subject of art education/instruction; three days of intensive collaboration, presentations, workshops, experimental formats and discussions; new forms of (artistic) knowledge transfer, which is to be offered in Graz and Styria.
There have been plans for an art academy in Graz for several decades. Now a network of Graz-based art institutions is working on a decidedly new model of art education/instruction: Using existing resources “Open Modes” takes the idea of collective, dehierarchized, collaborative knowledge production as a starting point. In the frame of “Trial Mode 01”, we intend to sound out the range of artistic and theoretical positions at hand and jointly further flesh out the concept.
Lectures, Workshops and round tables with: Stephan Dillemuth (München), Grupo Etcetera (Buenos Aires), Shuruq Harb / ArtTerritories (Ramallah), Manish Jain / Shikshantar: The Peoples' Institute for Rethinking Education and Development (Udaipur), Alanna Lockward (Berlin), Maya Mikelsone / Silent University (Paris), Freie Klasse an der Akademie der bildenden Künste (Wien), Marta Popivoda / TkH Walking Theory (Beograd/ Berlin), and others.
OPEN MODES has been jointly initiated by:
Akademie Graz, Camera Austria, esc medien kunst labor, FORUM STADTPARK, Grazer Kunstverein, IZK/TU Graz, Künstlerhaus KM–, Halle für Kunst & Medien, <rotor> Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz.
